Early Childhood Nutrition | Northern Western Cape
Salaam Foundation is providing monthly nutritional support to children attending four Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres in Vredendal, a rural community in the northern Western Cape. For many children, school meals are their primary source of daily nutrition, making this intervention essential to food security and healthy development.
ECD Centres Supported
* Jakkerland Preschool
* Qhayisa Preschool
* Vytjieland Preschool
* Olifants Speelkring
This initiative marks the beginning of Salaam Foundation’s broader ECD nutrition programme. On 14 January 2026, first-year learners were welcomed with small care packs to ease their transition into the school year, followed by the continuation of daily nutritious meals.
Community Needs
Economic hardship in the area often delays children’s attendance at ECD centres, as families struggle to afford fees. In addition, limited space at nearby public schools has created an urgent need for Grade R learners to be accommodated within ECD settings. Immediate needs include classroom furniture and basic learning infrastructure to ensure a safe and effective learning environment.
“Education nurtured with care, dignity, and compassion lays the foundation for generations to come.”
