LemonAid MelonAid – a humanitarian response

#LemonaidMelonaid is a child-centric humanitarian response to the dire situation facing Palestinians and especially children in the Gaza Strip. It is expected that the current crisis facing over 2 million people will get worse if some solution is not found to the current situation.

The problem is a result of 75 years of occupation by the Zionist state of Israel. This is what motivated Palestinian armed groups to launch large scale attacks from the Gaza Strip on 7 October 2023. The coordinated attacks resulted in many Israeli soldiers, armed police officers and settlers loosing their lives.

In response, Israel has sealed off the Gaza Strip, cut the electricity, water and food supply, and activated an aerial attack using advanced fighter jets, pummeling and destroying entire neighbourhoods in the coastal sliver. They have given Palestinians in the north of Gaza up until 6am on the 14 October 2023 to evacuate the area and move to the south. The internet has been cut off and world now the world anticipates a genocide. Close to 3000 Palestinians have now been killed and over one third of these are children.

Salaam Foundation has initiated our humanitarian emergency response plan to help provide basic food, hygiene and bedding material to the innocent who are currently suffering in this devastating situation and will continue to suffer for the foreseeable future.

We have therefore launched #LemonAid 3 with a slight twist. We are adding #MelonAid this year, as the colours of the watermelon have become symbolic to the Palestinian struggle for justice, freedom and equality.
