The fourth edition of the Salaam Foundation’s #LemonAid campaign (a twist on the lemonade stall idea) recently took place at various locations around SA, including Johannesburg south areas, Robertsham and Ormonde.

In 2019, a group of hikers headed by Bokkie Coovadia summitted Mt Elbrus in Russia, the highest mountain in Europe. The fundraising project was supported logistically by Salaam Foundation. The hike was spurred on by Sr Mooniba Bhyat to raise funds to buy two reusable sanitary pad cutting machines. One of the directors of the foundation, Fatima Sookharia, said these machines have since been imported and installed and have created opportunities for local NGOs to produce the sanitary pads that are now finally reaching deserving recipients.

Farm in the City in Robertsham

The Salaam Foundation has decided that growing food as a means of survival as a sustainable project is the best option to help the most vulnerable. One of the directors of the foundation, Fatima Sookharia, said the idea of a Farm in the City was thus born.
Very soon thereafter a farming project followed where a piece of barren land was rented out with the idea of turning it into a flourishing farm in the heart of Robertsham. The intent is to provide wholesome and healthy produce for those most in need. This farm has already fed families in need with harvests of fresh, healthy produce.

Palestinian medic, Dr Basel Abuwarda is on his #PalestineLeads tour in South Africa, where he aims to showcase the dignity and courage of the Palestinian people in the face of an apartheid occupation that has reached to a point of genocide. Johannesburg-based humanitarian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) Salaam Foundation and Colours of Hope are hosting the Gaza medical doctor in South Africa from February 14 to 22, for the tour.
