Salaam Foundation has completed a very successful humanitarian journey to the south or eastern part of Yemen. Due to the decade old conflict in the region, the country is effectively split in two with the Houthi administration in the north/west and the Saudi/Emirati backed leadership in the south/east.
Our work has been centred in the Hadhramaut Province and more so around the city of Tarim. Known for over a thousand years as a centre of spiritual refuge, the city is currently home to the largest concentration of the family of the Messenger Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon him).
However the war and deteriorating economic situation in the region have left many in a difficult condition.
Salaam Foundation has intervened at various levels to cover both immediate and long term needs.
From a sustainable and economic development perspective, we empowered 6 families living in the Dulaiah area with a a small goat breeding flock. In 2023 a similar trial project was run and Alhamdulillah families have already started seeing the flock increase.

We also successfully secured land rights on over 4 hectares to the north east of Tarim where we intend to establish a farming enterprise of our own. This will be a showcase of what is possible through long term sustainable development.

In terms of immediate support, food parcels were supplied to residents in Tarim who are undergoing hardships as well as to the Hadnet village of displaced persons. A key component in the food parcel was baby milk formula to aid in the nutritional support of suckling children.

Most remarkably, Salaam Foundation supplied a scholar transport vehicle to the Tarim Centre for the Blind. People who are completely without site attend classes only once a week because of the lack of vehicle. The students who include both adults and teenagers, learn to read the Quran using Braille as well as skills such as metal work, ceilings cornice design and book binding.
