Communities across South Africa unite to uplift families in Gaza through compassion.
Across South Africa, communities came together under the bright banner of #LemonAid 2025, a nationwide initiative by Salaam Foundation aimed at rebuilding hope for the people of Gaza.
What began as a simple idea of selling lemonade to raise funds, has once again grown into a powerful child-centric movement of compassion, awareness, and unity. Many stalls were registered across the country, each one representing the kindness, creativity, and conscience of ordinary South Africans doing extraordinary things.
This was a campaign rooted in compassion. LemonAid was created as a fun, interactive way for families, schools, and communities to take part in humanitarian relief. From homemade lemonade stands to vibrant pop-up stalls selling Halaal treats, every drop poured and every rand raised went directly towards the Gaza Kitchen Project providing warm meals to displaced families in Palestine.
This project forms part of Salaam Foundation’s broader commitment to rebuild Gaza – addressing urgent needs in food, education, and healthcare, as well as responding to appeals for ambulances, water tankers, and earth-moving equipment.
We’re rebuilding hope, one cup at a time. Over the past two years, Gaza has faced unimaginable devastation following continuous bombardment that has destroyed homes, schools, and hospitals. Yet, amid the ruins, the resilience of its people shines on – and through initiatives like #LemonAid, the world continues to respond with solidarity and compassion.
Children, families, schools, and organisations across South Africa joined hands to be part of that response – transforming ordinary weekends into moments of global impact.
