In December 2023, Salaam Foundation launched the Search & Rescue Team (SFSR) project. The SFSR team is a group of young men who will be deployed at the time of need to extreme rescue operations as well as the general humanitarian work of Salaam Foundation when the time arises.
In December 2023, the group started their Search & Rescue training course in Bursa, Turkiye. Now a year later, the group trained by İHH Afet Yönetimi, a non profit organisation from Turkiye have qualified as advanced level mountain rescuers.

During the first week of December 2024, the group headed to the Magaliesberg mountains for around a week of intensive training. Eleven people from the SFSR were trained in GPS victim location, stabilisation and steep slope extraction simulation amongst other intensive search and rescue training. At the end of the training, the group were awarded their qualification as advanced level mountain rescuers.
In 2023, the group underwent a series of training sessions with highly skilled and experienced Turkish facilitators. The training was meant to help the group to be able to respond to situations in urban, mountain and underwater search and rescue scenarios. The group’s training started just months after a huge earthquake hit parts of Turkey and Syria in February 2023. The increasing occurrence of natural disasters around the world as well the many conflicts occuring created the need for specialised training to be able to respond to these situations.
You can contribute to this sadaqa jaariya project of Salaam Foundation and earn ongoing reward for every situation this team responds to.
