For the past five weeks, Salaam Foundation has been on the ground across Gauteng, providing urgent relief to displaced individuals and families awaiting repatriation and support.
Forced from their homes in the middle of the night with little more than the clothes on their backs, many are now sheltering in temporary facilities across Johannesburg, uncertain of what comes next.
In this moment of uncertainty, our team has worked tirelessly to ensure that no one is forgotten.
Relief Delivered With Dignity
With the support of our volunteers, donors, and partners, Salaam Foundation has distributed:
– Hot meals: Freshly prepared food served daily, with dignity
– Clean water: Bottled water and hydration packs for families and children
– Essential supplies: Hygiene packs, blankets, and other basic necessities
– Compassion and care: Volunteers sitting with individuals to listen to their stories, fears, and hopes for the road ahead
“Every meal served is more than food,” said a Salaam Foundation member on site. “It’s compassion. It’s dignity. It’s hope.”
Serving With Humanity
Our response has never just been about relief. It’s about restoring humanity.
At City Deep and other sites across Gauteng, we met mothers with babies in their arms, elderly men and women, and young children who had traveled long distances. Beyond aid, we offered a simple but powerful reminder: _you are seen, you are valued, and you are not alone._
This work would not be possible without our incredible volunteers who showed up, and our donors whose generosity made every meal, bottle of water, and care pack possible.
